GEOS was founded in 2002 with a focus on power generation management consulting services.

Don Schmidt, GEOS' founder, has over 35 years of experience in power generation operations and management that ranges from nuclear power to combined cycle facilities to fluidized bed boilers to solar and wind technologies.  He has held positions in these facilities from plant operator to executive management of power generation fleet operations.

In 2005, GEOS expanded its focus to include industrial energy efficiency.  Since December of 2005, GEOS has represented the US Department of Energy in the conduct of energy assessments of the nations largest industrial companies (Dow, Chrysler Motors, Kraft Foods, General Dynamics, Ford Motor Company, Goodyear, among others).  To date, the recommendations resulting from these assessments have provided potential savings of more than $18 million annually - most with a simple payback of 18 months or less.
